Story of a Short Trip to the South, Though the Warmth is Still Not Available! (Part 2)

Standard

Hope dies last!

Well, it was getting better or brighter, and the wind calmed down. We were encouraged to dare more; there is an island or peninsula on Bodensee named Mainau, the flower island, which one can reach by boat or car. We decided on the latter because it was cheaper.

Photographed from the Zeppelin, Mainau Island, Lake Constance.
(I had to take this from Wikipedia since I had no drone to send up there.πŸ˜‰)

The island is owned by The Lennart Bernadotte Foundation, which was established by Prince Lennart Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg, a former Prince of Sweden and Duke of SmΓ₯land. (If you at least have read Annemarie Selinko‘s book, DΓ©sirΓ©e, you got the point!)
The island is a popular tourist destination on Lake Constance and is known for its beautiful flowers and park landscape that offers breathtaking views of the lake.

At this very moment, I had to think of Lin Gregory and her beautiful sights and pictures.

The island also has a tropical climate greenhouse, home to thousands of butterflies. However, I must admit that I feel ashamed of myself with great pity for the butterflies as I walk, among many others trying to catch a good pic! Countless butterflies were in that air-conditioned garden, watching us, wondering what we wanted; some restlessly flew here and there, and some were sitting and posing in front of the camera, cooly unperturbed!

And here are my thoughts towards the Master of Monarch: Elaine Mansfeld.

To put a video here is a challenge in life!!😜

There were also more beautiful sights to observe, but let’s make a third part?!πŸ˜‚πŸ™πŸ’–πŸ€™πŸŒŸ

  1. Hey! You couldn’t make this stuff up … this very afternoon as it was sunny and warm here on the south coast (UK), I set up my sun lounger in our garden (while watching Lin gardening) and started reading a new book, ‘The Butterfly Isles’ by Patrick Barkham … and then I come here to read about your butterfly visit!

Thank you so much for sharing the second part of your holiday post with us and including your wonderful photos, and links to Lin’s and Elaine’s website. The island sounds amazing, I would love to visit it too, especially the flower island. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Love and light, Deborah.

  2. Now that’s the kind of place I would love to visit Aladin, filled with so many magnificent trees and a butterfly house too…just beautiful! I can imagine that you and your wife were filled with the peace of wild things after your visit there. I was blushing virtually as I read the mention of my photography – thank you so much Aladin for your kind words and for bringing more beauty and friendship into our lives.

  3. Thank you for these gorgeous images and videos. It’s so nice to see and hear about places like this throughout the world where people love and respect nature and care about preserving. Love the drone image! The island looks like a giant turtle with a crew cut and all kinds of life clinging to his back! ❀️ Jeanie

A Blue Morpho!! I’m also sorry it’s confined, but they fly free in Costa Rico. My best Blue Morpho sighting was in a dream and it inspired me to write a rare poem. The color is amazing. The butterflies in that tight space have lots of mating opportunities and plenty of food, so we’ll hope they’re content. Zoos are not the best for any animal. Flowers seem more content in captivity, although I loved seeing the Blue Morpho flying around and being admired by children.

    • I totally agree, dear Elaine! I wouldn’t say I like zoos, or better yet, I would never go there. As you mentioned, the space is too tight for the flowers and butterflies. There were also birds and turtles, which I will share in the last part! Thank you for your skillful comment, lovely friend.πŸ™πŸ€™πŸ’–
