Today as we all know, is the day in which 40 years ago, John Lennon has been shot dead. I have titled my post as; “Why”, because, as we also know, there have many assassinations been taken part in (political) history and many famous and mostly good people were killed, but, all of these happenings have some justification though, all of which are sad excuses. But I still can’t understand why John Lennon.

They say the culprit was not in a normal condition which in my opinion, is bullshit! To shoot a peaceful man, who has always said and sung about love and peace, a certain determination must be needed which would bring someone to do this. This man was aware of what he’d done. Oh sad, sad, sad, it a sad world!

The only joy is the remaining of his words and songs about peace and love. John, you are always in our hearts.
“Across The Universe”
(“Let It Be” Version)
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind
Inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter shades of life are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
And calls me on and on across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva…
“Jai Guru Deva Om” is a mantra in Sanskrit used in meditations. “Guru Dev” is another name of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, who was the teacher of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who—in turn—was the guru to The Beatles.
The closest I’ve come to understand why John was murdered was a conversation in a film called “The Hours” which includes this interaction between Virginia and Leonard Woolf. Here’s a short transcript:
________________________________________
Leonard: Why does someone have to die?
Virginia: Leonard.
Leonard: In your book, you said someone had to die.
Virginia: Mm.
Leonard: Why?
[Virginia gazes at the fire thoughtfully.]
Leonard: Is that a stupid question?
Virginia: No.
Leonard: I imagine my question is stupid.
Virginia: Not at all.
Leonard: Well?
Virginia: Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It’s contrast.
Leonard: And who will die? Tell me.
Virginia: The poet will die…the visionary.
________________________________________
So for me the poet (Lennon) had to die in order for the rest of us to value our life more. When I first heard this conversation I felt such deep truth in this statement. Warm winter wishes, Deborah.

Dear Deborah, it seems that I have totally missed this movie. Your narration yesterday has made me confused! Maybe because I had twelve hours of work left behind. But honestly, this conversation is moving. I have never considered this subject in this way. It is actually very sad to believe that we need victims to understand the value of life. Though, it seems also that life and the suffering are inseparable. I will look forward to watching this movie. Thank you, dearest, Love and Light forever. 🙏💖

Also there is a book, “The Hours” by Michael Cunningham which won both the Pulitizer and Pen Faulkner Prize.
It is a daring and deeply affecting novel and (Oscar winning) film inspired by the life and work of Virginia Woolf.
For me, the consequences of choosing to become a writer, a poet in life is one of Cunningham’s central themes. Enjoy!
