The Air as I arche

Anaximenes puts the air that is an infinite principle as arjé, as the apex of Anaximating; but determined, like Thales water. Air as arche replaces Thales’ water, but at the same time incorporates some of the properties of Anaximander’s Apeiron. In Anaximander, the arche is infinite and indeterminate. For Anaximenes the air, as I arche, is an apex (infinite) but determined.

Anaximenes has probably found in the empirical air a series of properties that would perform better than other elements the functions of arjé.

First of all the invisibility and the infinity of the air. According to news from Hipólito (Ref. I 7, 3), the air “when it is perfect is imperceptible to the eye”. The air is infinite but determined. But the determination of air is more abstract to the senses than that of water: it is invisible like the apex.

Secondly, the air has a divine character (“Anaximenes says that the air is a god”, Aecio, I 7, 13) and is compared to the soul. The air is related since ancient times with the psychic powers (Aecio, I 3, 4): “Just as our soul (yuch ‘) being air keeps us together, so also the breath (pneûma) or air encompasses the entire cosmos”.

The two opposites (hot and cold) that Anaximander extracted from the abrupt ex-Apeiron, Anaximenes builds them through condensation and rarefaction: «the compressed and condensed is cold, and the weird and lax is hot (Plutarch, Frigid cousin, 7, 947 F.

El Aire como arjé

Anaxímenes pone como arjé el aire que es un principio infinito, como el ápeiron de Anaximando; pero determinado, como el agua de Tales. El aire como arjé sustituye al agua de Tales, pero a la vez incorpora alguna de las propiedades del ápeiron de Anaximandro. En Anaximandro el arjé es infinito e indeterminado. Para Anaxímenes el aire, como arjé, es un ápeiron (infinito) pero determinado.

Probablemente Anaxímenes haya encontrado  en el aire empírico una serie de propiedades que desempeñarían mejor que otros elementos las funciones de arjé.

En primer lugar la invisibilidad y la infinitud del aire. Según noticia de Hipólito (Ref. I 7, 3) el aire “cuando es perfecto es imperceptible a la vista”. El aire es infinito pero determinado. Love/Hate

The world for Empedocles is settled between Love, Hate, phase in which the separation of the elements predominates.“These elements never cease their continuous change. Sometimes they unite under the influence of Love and in this way everything becomes the One. Other times they disintegrate by the hostile force of Hate and have an unstable life. ” (Fr. 17)
The cosmic cycle consists of four stages, two extremes represented by triumph, be it of friendship, be it of discord, and two intermediates, of transition from one to discord; or vice versa: “Something double I will say: Once it grew to be One only from many, and again it separated from many to be one” (frag. 17). It is, therefore, the two cosmic forces of “Love and Hate” that move the elements. The movement of composing and dissolving cyclic“All of this occurs through a double cycle of history, both of the world and of living beings; “Double is the generation of mortal beings, double their disappearance” (frag. 17).
This cyclicity, so specifically archaic, is shown, according to Empédocles, in the future of the world (kosmos), which presents a clear Heraclitean influence. But, by demand of his own reasoning, with an obvious Parmenidean influence, he will sustain eternity and immutability of being.

I have to praise the costume designer, Marion Boyce. This won’t happen often, you may notice a lack of fashion in my writings, but I practically drool over the Roaring Twenties costumes in this series; they’re exquisite, almost like a character unto themselves. If I ever became rich, I would probably dress as if I was in the 1920s

How worthy is Life?

It is really an interesting question; I think that the answer is somehow relative! I said this because I have tasted the two different world to praise one’s life and it is different. The picture above is the girl or woman, who burned herself before the “Judge” because she disguised herself as masculine to get into the football stadium as in Iran the women are not allowed to watch the half-naked men!! It might be a laughingly easy joke for the world, but actually, I asked myself after shockingly read this news, how much worth is one’s life;

This question once become in my head when I left Iran, a so-called third world country, in Germany. There I’d see how life could be worthy.

In Iran we have taken it much easier when someone died, it sounded so naturally, but here in Germany, I mentioned that it isn’t!

Here, as C.G.Jung says; It is the point; We are all individual in a self-living insistence: Cogito, ergo sum as René Descartes had said;

This is an idea of thought, which isn’t current in the “Third words” The mass of people is the main thing and not their individuality.

Anyway, my wonder has begun with the self-burning of a Tunisian at the beginning of the “so-called Arabic Spring”! But that was; in my opinion, a radio in an almost hot situation which had brought almost nothing in the end.

at the end; long talk short sense; I think the life every individual is worthy, but unfortunately this girl’s life has been lost into an unworthiness. I hope her soul will be blessed by all goodness.

Achilles’ Shield
Excerpt from James Redfield’s book “The Hector’s Tragedy”
The Shield comprises five concentric circles. The poet begins his description from its centre and proceeds to the periphery. The inner-circle represents the earth, the sea and the sky, the sun and the moon, and the constellations, which are the beings – signs and monsters (S, 485). Nature is thus presented to us, in the absence of man, as a kingdom of order and importance.
The second ring represents the human world in itself. We distinguish two cities, one in peace and the other in times of war. In the peaceful city we see marriage and a litany of social solidarity and social strife. In the war-torn city we see a council discussing war tactics and at the same time portraying an ambush.

The third ring represents the four agricultural seasons: ploughing, mowing, harvesting, and fallow season, during which the herds are driven to the fields to fertilize them for the next ploughing. In this ring, we see man along with nature, as well as the cycle of human productive activity.
The fourth ring represents a circular dance; in other words, society, which in the second ring is portrayed as a structure of cooperation and strife, appears here as a pure collectivity. And just as the fourth ring reflects the second with some difference, so does the fifth reflects the first, here we have the ocean current, which, as the whole world surrounds, so does the image of the whole world. The two inner rings represent nature and culture as a structure of full significance, the two outer rings as a pure act or simple process. Shield switches from nature to culture, and then to productivity, which is the inclusion of nature in culture, then returns, through culture, to nature. The set is, in a symmetrical construction, A-B-C-B-A, of its Homeric type.

 Η Ασπίδα περιλαμβάνει πέντε ομόκεντρους κύκλους. Ο ποιητής αρχίζει την περιγραφή του από το κέντρο της και προχωρεί προς την περιφέρεια. Ο εσωτερικός κύκλος αναπαριστάνει τη γη, τη θάλασσα και τον ουρανό, τον ήλιο και τη σελήνη, και τους αστερισμούς, τα οποία είναι τα τείρεα – σημεία και τέρατα (Σ, 485). Η φύση έτσι μας παρουσιάζεται, εν απουσία του ανθρώπου, ως ένα βασίλειο τάξης και σημασίας.
